Taxi for burglar!
A burglar stole a mobile phone during a raid on a taxi driver's house and was caught when he used it to order a cab from same the company the victim worked for, it was revealed today.
Driver Don Smith said it was a "million to one chance" that Jake Ormerod would use the sim card from the phone he stole to contact the taxi company.
Mr Smith, of Torquay, Devon, said it was very fortunate the call operator recognised the number and contacted police.
The 53-year-old said his car keys and a lap top were stolen and his Vauxhall Zafira was taken and later found abandoned in a nearby street.
After calling the taxi firm Ormerod was arrested and has pleaded guilty at Torbay Magistrates Court to burglary.
The 18-year-old also pleaded guilty to two charges of theft from a motor vehicle, being a passenger of a vehicle without consent, theft of a rucksack and shoplifting.
He will be sentenced on July 20 at Exeter Crown Court.
Mr Smith said: "It was a million to one chance that he would choose to contact my taxi firm and that the operator would recognise the number."
