The Road: Preview
Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize winning 'The Road' is set in a post apocalyptic world where cannibalistic predators stalk the barren and deserted landscape. Walking through a decimated America a man and his son have only a single handgun as defence against the relentless hordes vying to eat them.
Vigo Mortensen plays the protective father, who must move south with his son (Kodi-Smit-McPhee) to a warmer climate, although both father and son have no idea what is waiting for them there.

The trailer looks impressive and I can even scent an early nomination for the film in categories such as 'Best Picture' at The Oscars. Vigo Mortensen has had a recent revival, and his appearance in the fantastic 'Eastern Promises' directed by David Cronenberg affirmed Mortensen's credibility as a versatile and valuable asset to any serious film production.

John Hillcoat directs the atmospheric thriller that Cormac had originally written. Hillcoat has form for producing film with fantastic visual qualities. 'The Proposition' in 2005 is an epic Leone style western with some amazing, breathtaking landscapes and his attention to detail in 'The Road' looks to be of similar quality.
I am certainly excited by the trailer as the visual aspects of the film are very appealing indeed, of course this needs to be accompanied by a great script and competent acting. One thing is for certain, the story will be gripping,Cormac McCarthy is a fantastic writer (He wrote the 'No Country For Old Men' novel).
The Road is released in the UK on the 8th of January nationwide.
