Sean Bean Stars in Medieval Shocker 'Black Death'
The era of the black death was one of the most chilling periods in history. In 1347 A.D. a plague swept across Europe, causing mass hysteria and death. The black death (or the bubonic plague) wiped out one third of the population of Europe, and had a devastating effect upon the English population.
The symptoms of this disease were truly horrendous, first a carrier would get boils on their glands, and then they would turn black, oozing out blood and puss. The boils would then burst and shortly after result in a very unpleasant death.
This horrible period in history provides the setting of Sean Bean's latest film 'Black Death', set in medieval England at the height of the plague. In this world of fear and satanic superstition a young monk and a fearsome band of mercenaries, led by Ulric, (Sean Bean), travel to a small town in England to investigate why none of its town people have been infected by the plague. If any of the town folk are suspected of being' un- Godly' in their escaping of the disease they are to be dealt with severely by Bean and his band of not so merry men.
Bean's character in particular reminded me of a certain 1968 film called' Witchfinder General' and its ruthless antagonist Anthony Hopkins (played by Vincent Price). He similarly to Ulric (Bean's character) believed that in killing innocent people he was actually doing God's work. Although both movies were set in different periods the same hysteria surrounding witchcraft and sorcery remained, and all people suspected of witchcraft were dealt with in the most severe of ways.
British horror director Christopher Smith directs this effort, and he has form for directing some decent horror films, Creep (2004) and Triangle (2009) are among his best.
The Black Death should hit screens in the UK on 26th February 2010.

Sean Bean is a well respected man in the industry. I love this film "Black Death" it brings us back to the times of the plague and we would be thankful that it didn't happened in our time.
